Grants
Neighborhood Equitable Recovery Fund – June 7
Bread & Roses Community Fund, in partnership with the City of Philadelphia Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity is launching the Neighborhood Equitable Recovery Fund to support community-based nonprofit organizations that work in areas of Philadelphia that have been hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Groups that are experiencing financial hardship; are at risk of closing; or have substantially reduced services due to the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are encouraged to apply.
Grants of $15,000 will be made to community-based nonprofit organizations that represent communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic around issues including, but not limited to: health education, food distribution, family support, and community organizing to address barriers to support. Priority will be given to organizations where community members are in positions of leadership, where their lived experience is honored, where their knowledge influences the work and where they meaningfully participate in program design and implementation.
Organizations may use funds to support payroll, rent, mortgage payments, utilities, or other operating expenses; and to provide and organize mutual aid projects for their members.
Grant Program to Address Social Determinants of Health – Jun 18
The Cigna Foundation has announced a new Education and Workforce development grant opportunity and will begin accepting applications later this month. The program is part of the foundation’s ongoing focus on addressing the social determinants of health and achieving greater health outcomes overall.
Education and workforce development grants will support students enrolled in pre-K, grades K-8, and high school, as well as postsecondary and adult education. The foundation will also provide support to nonprofits that provide programming designed to increase the cultural competency of healthcare professionals by helping them better understand and address health disparities among vulnerable populations.
The foundation is looking for qualified nonprofits with pre-K programs focused on improving the cognitive and social development of children and boosting their language, literacy, and math and science abilities; K-8 programs focused on helping students excel in language, literacy, and STEM subjects; high school programs focused on introducing students to careers in health care, supporting them through successful graduation, and helping them further their education in preparation for a job in health care; and postsecondary and adult education programs that support adults in health-related jobs.
