On February 17th, UAC invited Dr. Merle Carter, MD, FACEP, Vice Chair Department of Emergency Medicine, Einstein Healthcare Network to discuss the latest information on the Covid-19 Virus, from how it spreads to the current vaccines.

Dr. Carter’s BIO
Dr. Carter is the Executive Vice-Chair of Emergency Medicine at Einstein Healthcare Network with 3 Emergency Departments. In addition to departmental leadership & strategic planning, she has responsibility and oversight of Faculty Affairs and Development. She is a leader in the fields of both Medical Education and Emergency Medicine.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Dr. Carter is a graduate of Wellesley College and Yale School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center (Boston University). She is a Teaching Fellowship graduate of the American College of Emergency Physicians. At Einstein, she has served in multiple leadership capacities in the Department of Emergency Medicine including Medical Student Rotation Director and Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. In addition, she has served as an Officer of Einstein’s Medical Staff Board and the Assistant Vice President for Graduate Medical Education before becoming Vice Chair. More recently she has been active in the network’s COVID Incident Command Teams and COVID Education Committee at Einstein serving both the hospital and surrounding communities.
Dr. Carter is a well-respected leader in the Emergency Medicine community both nationally and regionally. She is an active member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, and the Council of Residency Directors. She served several years on the Pennsylvania College of Emergency Physicians Board of Directors, was President of the Board, and recently awarded the Meritorious Service Award, presented annually to a member who has made significant contributions to Emergency Medicine in the Commonwealth and reflects longstanding commitment to Emergency Medicine in Pennsylvania.
In addition to Dr. Carter’s regional and national leadership, she has published in academic medicine journals and a national speaker on the topics of Emergency Medicine and Medical Education. In 2020, Dr. Carter was a recipient of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Woman of Distinction Awards given annually to the region’s most influential business women who have made a difference in their communities.
